Our project aims to understand the men behind the Barnardo and Middlemore Homes, which facilitated the emigration of thousands of children from the United Kingdom to Canada from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century. The goal of our timelines are to gain insight into how their personal lives influenced their philanthropic work and to contextualize the social and economic factors of the times. Furthermore, a timeline of their organizations provides a chronological overview of the growth and changes in their respective emigration homes, tracing the development of policies and programs aimed at improving the lives and wellbeing of children.
